Historic generals have always captured our imagination. They have been romaticized, in large part thanks to the uniform, and accompanying decorations. And when it comes to uniforms, the 19th century witnessed some of the most swanky ones.
Today’s celebrities are no less adored, often portraying historic figures, or imitating their appearance. A brilliant artist decided to combine these traits, and photoshop modern celebrities as 19th century generals. Beautifully done. Would have been interesting to see some women here.
General Elijah Wood
Elijah Wood will forever be remembered for his role as Frodo. It is pretty hard to picture him as a general. Then again, he could pull it off, portraying Napoleon, or Alexander perhaps.
General Elvis Presley
The King of Rock and Roll is known for his distinct, flamboyant appearance. So this depiction doesn’t come as a surprise. The hair could pose a problem though.
General Hugh Jackman
Though made famous for portraying Wolverine/Logan, Hugh Jackman is known for a wide range of roles. Looking at him in uniform, the role that immediately comes to mind is that of Leopold in the fantasy romantic comedy Kate & Leopold.
General Ian Mckellen
We know him as Gandalf who isn’t exactly a general. However, Sir Ian Mckellen, as Magneto, did command the Brotherhood of Mutants, against the X-Men. We also remember his chilling performance in a Nazi uniform in Apt Pupil.
General Jack Nicholson
Jack’s iconic speech as Colonel Nathan in A Few Good Men is evidence of what a great general he would have been. Befitting indeed.
General Jet Li
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
General Leo DiCaprio
Didn’t DiCaprio wear a similar outfit in Django Unchained?
General John Cena
You do not want to mess with this particular general.
General Matt Damon
General Michael Clarke Duncan
Wish he didn’t leave us so soon. Would have loved to see him play this type of role.
General Michael Jackson
The King of Pop often wore outfits resembling 19th century generals, along with epaulettes.
General Mickey Rourke
General Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman doesn’t usually play military figures, but the uniform suits this extraordinary actor.
General Mr T
Mr. T is one ferocious general. T for tenacity.
General Russell Crowe
General Maximus Decimus Meridius is back. This time, shedding his Roman uniform for a Prussian one.
General Samuel L Jackson
Nick Fury is the man responsible for bringing the Avengers together. Both uniforms suit him nicely.
General Sean Connery
Sir Sean Connery has portrayed everyone from secret agent James Bond, to Allan Quatermain. Though his uniform does bring back memories of The Hunt for Red October.
General Steve Jobs
One of the greatest visionaries of our time. Steve Jobs looks quite suited to a general’s uniform. Must be that keen gaze of his.
General Sylvester Stallone
The Italian Stallion in full military regalia.
General Tom Selleck
Magnum PI certainly has the brawn to pull of the role of a general.
General Van Damme
Don’t mess with the Belgians. Especially if they are led by Van Damme.
General Will Smith
What did Captain James West do after his Wild Wild West shenanigans? Why he moved to 19th Century Europe to lead an army into battle. A much more respectable role.
